Our Recent Trip to America: Disney's Magic Kingdom (Day One)

I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted on here. Life has kept me pretty busy lately and I'm trying to achieve the ultimate social/work/life balance and in doing so, blogging has become my last priority which sucks because I love getting my thoughts and feelings out and sharing my photos on here.

Nevertheless, a quick update. Since the last time I posted, I started a masters at uni, quit said course (that's another story altogether), turned 22, celebrated Christmas and New Year and, of course, visited America. I can't express how much we enjoyed ourselves while we were at Orlando. We did so much in our two weeks that I will have to post about it in multiple blog posts (I also took lots and lots of photos too).

Tuesday 1st November 2016

Today our holiday officially 'started'. We left for Manchester airport at 2 in the morning to catch our 9am flight. Waiting for the flight was the worst. I'm not a fan of flying anyway but because my last experience on a plane was so awful (we had terrible turbulence), I was dreading getting on the plane - and for such a long time too! I tried to keep myself occupied by watching movies and tv and luckily there was quite a selection of really good movies that kept my mind off the plane and at ease for a little.

At around midday, we landed in Orlando. I was so excited to collect our bags and go to the hotel but because we had to wait a long time in customs, we didn't get out until around 5pm. We collected our hire-car and made our way for our hotel when we realised that we were completely and utterly lost. Not having any signal on our phones, we decided to head back to the airport (luckily, we hadn't got very far), and request a satnav instead. Honestly, if we hadn't of had that satnav I think we'd still be trying to navigate around to this day.

We got to our hotel just after 10pm, checked in and had some well needed sleep.

Wednesday 2nd November 2016

Our first full day in America so where did we decide to go? Magic Kingdom, of course! I was so incredibly excited to go and it didn't disappoint. The park itself could only be reached by ferry ride or through a monorail. So we hopped onto the ferry and were escorted to the front gates where we collected our tickets and entered the park.

Upon entering we saw this:

The beautiful Cinderella castle! We headed up to the castle, took a shameless Disneyland selfie, and then went to explore. We came across the It's a Small World ride so we decided to go on that first. It wasn't David's cup of tea, but I thought it was okay - not as good as the one they have in Paris though.

Despite only just celebrating Halloween, the whole park was decorated with Christmas decorations and Christmas songs were playing through all the speakers. To me, it felt very strange because I always associate Christmas with freezing cold, drab and grey British weather - not 26 degree heat. Nonetheless, the weather was lovely and after going on the majority of rides, we stumbled across the parade so we decided to stay and watch that.

We then headed back to some more rides, had some food, then when it got dark, we watched the night show which was amazing and so incredibly magical.

We left the park about 11pm, got back to the hotel at 12pm and fell asleep, ready for a new day.
